How to Adopt a College

Please read the whole page which will answer many common questions. Thanks!

1. Check Out Colleges in Your Area

Click on your state or province to find colleges near you.

More than one person can leaflet the same college. If a college you want to leaflet isn't there, we will add it after you leaflet.

These sites give enrollment and other information about colleges:

2. Order Materials

We recommend our brochure Even If You Like Meat for leafleting at colleges.

Please give us at least 5 business days to get materials to you.

Cost of Pamphlets

Vegan Outreach doesn't sell pamphlets. We give them to people and they donate as they can afford. We only exist because of donations from people who care about animals. If you can donate, please do, but if you can't we are happy to provide you with whatever you will use. Please remember that good intentions are not good enough - if you order pamphlets and don't donate you have a special obligation to hand them out because they were paid for through someone else's sacrifice.

First Time Participants

We ask for at least some minor donation for your first order to prevent fraud (like $5 for 100 pamphlets). After you hand out those 100 and report your totals to us (see #7), we can give you more.

Return Participants

Shipping boxes of 300 directly to you from the printer saves a lot on shipping compared to first sending pamphlets to us in order to re-distribute in smaller amounts.

Order pamphlets and donate here.

Especially in Bible belt areas, we recommend taking a few Are We Good Stewards of God's Creation? for people who say the Bible condones eating meat. They can be ordered from the Christian Vegetarian Association.

Suggestions about effective leafleting and questions such as "Do I need permission?" are answered on these pages:

At many colleges, especially smaller ones, it's best to leaflet in between classes. Look up college class schedules by searching for "[school name] class schedule" on a search engine or the college web site search box.

High schools need to be leafleted either before or after school. Find those times by searching for "[school name] bell schedule" on a search engine or calling the school. Remember that high schools often have half days and unexpected days off school.

4. Consider Joining our Email List

Click to subscribe to the Adopt A College email list
, providing discussion among leafleters about strategy. If you are not yet a member of Yahoo, it takes a few minutes to join. There is no cost.

7. Report Your Totals

After you leaflet, please e-mail Anne Green at anne (a*t) veganoutreach (dot) org and include:

  • College
  • Date you leafleted
  • Number of pamphlets you handed out
  • Group website you would like listed if any

We will add your totals to the Adopt a College Pages.
